HOHHOT, China, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- In the main course of the joyful and moving 2019 WCBA All-Star Weekend, Team North defeated Team South 123-109 here on Sunday night.
The game was played in fast pace as two teams tied at 70-70 in the first half before Team North took the lead with fast breaks in the second half and kept it to the end.
Four players from the winner scored over 20 points, and Sun Mengran won the Most Valuable Player trophy.
This is the first time for Inner Mongolia hosting the big event of the WCBA league. At the start of the night, the local audiences were amazed by the Inner Mongolia style dance performed by the All-Star players, who had been practicing this for the whole weekend.
The joy was followed by a memorial ceremony, when representatives from Chinese women's teams of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games stepped onto the court, receiving trophies from Yao Ming, chairman of Chinese Basketball Association, as a reward for their performance at the Olympics.
"You don't need to surpass anyone, just write your own story," said Miao Lijie, member of the 2008 team to the young players. "After another ten years, you can stand on the court and pass the glory to the future like us."
Yang Liwei enjoyed victory at Skills Challenge while Liang Jiamei scored 16 points to win the award of the Three-Point Shootout.
A special game was played during the halftime break between Ye Sha Team and All-Star players. The "one-man-team" is consisted of five people who received organ donations from one boy whose name was Ye Sha. He passed away on April 27, 2017.
